Lorraine Jacobs is an award winning contemporary artist working out of her ‘Broad View Studio’ west of Christchurch. Her aim is to capture in her paintings some of the dramatic beauty and interest she sees in the world around her, translating them into eye-catching landscapes, sensitive human and animal portraits, significant buildings, and beautiful florals.

From her first juried show in 1993, Lorraine’s ability to meet the challenges of painting with watercolour, acrylic and oils has been well-recognised. Her paintings have proved to be very popular, resulting in numerous commissions and several significant awards.
Global travel and many years of living and painting abroad have given her added experience and insights. She has spent time painting in Canada, Italy, Australia, and the UK, as well as around New Zealand.

Lorraine has been an executive member of Arts Canterbury, and an active member of the Nashville Artist Guild, the Tennessee Watercolour Society, and the Tennessee Art League. In the USA she was an award winning exhibitor with the multiple-State Central South Art Exhibition, and a finalist in a field of 14,000 contributors to the juried competition of ‘The Artist Magazine’. Locally Lorraine has participated regularly in the ‘Celebrating Selwyn’ ten day event, and in Art Week, winning Peoples’ Choice award.

Lorraine’s artist and teaching studio has been in Kirwee for the past ten years. She and her husband Lyndsay are currently building a new home and studio in Darfield. There are individual and corporate collectors of her paintings in a number of countries around the world, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and southern Africa, and throughout New Zealand. Lorraine has many students throughout central Canterbury.
